Troqueer Primary in Dumfries is looking for a crossing patrol person to assist pupils.
Headteacher Martin Armstrong is concerned for the safety of youngsters after a number of “near misses”.
But the part-time position has been advertised several times without any applications being received.
Mr Armstrong said: “Our last crossing patrol retired over three years ago after around 30 years of service to our school.
“Junior road safety officers are leading our drive to look for a new crossing patrol.
“Following a number of near misses over the past three years, we are hoping that someone from the Troqueer community willbe able to give a couple of hours a day to help us.”
The school is looking for someone to cover the position for 7.5 hours per week.
The control of the behaviour of children at crossing areas is a major requirement of the job.
The post is considered as regulated work with vulnerable children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Act 2007.
As from 28 February 2011, preferred candidates are required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
A new application process is now open and will close next Wednesday.
