Police say a driver had a lucky escape after crashing into 'the only thing separating them from the Manchester Ship Canal'.

Officers say the accident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.

North West Motorway Police tweeted: "The driver of this Vauxhall was fortunate not to lose everything after smashing into the only thing separating them and the Manchester Ship Canal.
