Drew Brees Pushes Back at Trump About Kneeling Protests: It’s ‘Never Been’ About the American Flag

Donald Trump has sparked fury after saying a pensioner who was shoved to the ground by US cops 'fell harder than he was pushed'. Two police officers in Buffalo, New York State, have been charged with assault after a video showed a 75-year-old protester being shoved during recent demonstrations over the death of George Floyd in Minnesota.

John Oliver held back tears during a breathtaking episode of Last Week Tonight devoted to discussing the scourge of police brutality in the United States, and Donald Trump‘s “f**king disgusting” response to the protests. “All week long, protesters have continued to fill the streets in all 50 states in the wake of the horrific murder of George Floyd by the police,” Oliver said on the June 7 episode.

Drew Brees was engulfed in controversy last week when the New Orleans Saints quarterback gave an interview with Yahoo! and addressed Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players protesting police violence against African-Americans by kneeling during the national anthem prior to football games.

NFL players taking a knee during the National Anthem and raising of the American flag has never got as much attention — and shifts in opinion — as it has in the past 48 hours. It started out when New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees in a June 3 interview said, “I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America” by kneeling.

Twitter users think Donald Trump, 73, should be the one apologizing after the POTUS threw shade at Drew Brees‘ attempt to backtrack on his anti-kneeling comments. “I am a big fan of Drew Brees. I think he’s truly one of the greatest quarterbacks, but he should not have taken back his original stance on honoring our magnificent American Flag. OLD GLORY is to be revered, cherished, and flown high…,” Trump tweeted on June 5.

Drew Brees is apologizing for his comments about fellow NFL athletes who choose to kneel at games during the national anthem. The 41-year-old New Orleans Saints quarterback gave an interview to in which he was asked about players kneeling.

Drew Brees, the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints, is apologizing for his comments about kneeling during the National Anthem.

LeBron James was among the pro athletes on Wednesday who were shocked by comments made by Drew Brees earlier in the day. The Saints star QB said in an interview with Yahoo News that, even after the killing of George Floyd and worldwide protests which resulted, he was still against any football player kneeling during the national anthem.“I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country," Brees said.

While President Donald Trump is busy holding photo ops with an upside-down bible and demanding that protesters be handled by the military and threatening to unleash dogs on them, former President Barack Obama has decided to release a message of hope and unity. Since leaving the Oval Office, the Democratic icon has been rather silent on political matters.

NFL quarterback Drew Brees can add one more fumble to his career total. The New Orleans Saints star is the latest public figure to spark backlash over his comments surrounding his beliefs on the National Anthem and the United States flag.  On Wednesday, Yahoo Finance interviewed Brees and asked him about his stance on the recent nationwide protests in response to George Floyd's death, who was killed by a Minneapolis police officer on Monday, May 25.
