Brent Lang Executive Editor Archstone Entertainment has acquired worldwide sales rights to “Don Q,” a comedic tribute to mafia movies that stars Armand Assante, no stranger to the genre from his work in HBO’s “Gotti” and “American Gangster.” It was written and directed by Claudio Bellante. Sales for the film kicked off this week at AFM. The film follows Assante’s character, who thinks of himself as a Don Corleone but is really more of a Don Quixote.
Feeding off decades of delusion, longtime Little Italy resident Don Q believes himself to be a powerful mafia figurehead set out to reclaim the neighborhood and its fleeting values. It isn’t until the return of a ruthless ex-con that Q’s fantasy is put to the test, landing the self-proclaimed mafia chief and a loyal recruit in an ensuing turf war. The film also stars cast members from TV’s most iconic mafia series, “The Sopranos,” including Vincent Pastore, Federico Castelluccio and Saundra Santiago.
The film was produced by Assante, Bellante and Michael Domino. It was executive produced by Ante Novakovic, Rob Simmons, Kresh Novakovic and Robert Mladinich. The deal was negotiated by Novakovic and Simmons on behalf of the film.
Archstone’s president of worldwide sales, Jack Sheehan, represented the company. “As a die-hard ‘Sopranos,’ Scorsese, and Coppola fan, representing a new mafia classic that celebrates the genre and adds a fun, heartwarming self-awareness with some of its most recognizable actors is an honor I liken as close to “being made” as a sales agent can achieve. Assante is a legend who’s perfected this Little Italy godfather persona, and icing on the cannoli is working with Ante and Rob, who I’ve been speaking with for years,” said Sheehan.

London Mayor had turned down plans to build an MSG Sphere in Stratford, citing issues of light pollution and negative impacts on residents.Plans for the venue – which would have been the city’s equivalent to the MSG Las Vegas Sphere – were first announced back in 2018, when the Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp (MSG) submitted a planning application to the London Legacy Development Corporation, requesting to transform a site in Stratford. If it had come to fruition, the 21,500-capacity venue would have been the largest concert arena in the UK. It would also have contained a smaller 1,500-capacity venue inside the orb-like arena for grassroots artists, as well as shops and restaurants. Now, following the plans being rejected by Khan, the operators for the company have issued a response, stating that they are disappointed in the decision and will now be directing their developments to more “forward-thinking cities” instead. In a statement shared with NME, a spokesperson for Sphere Entertainment said: “While we are disappointed in London’s decision, there are many forward-thinking cities that are eager to bring this technology to their communities.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large As they were writing the pilot script for their new Max comedy series “Bookie,” co-creators Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay thought it would be fun to add a real-life Hollywood star playing a version of themself as an inveterate gambler. The series stars stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco as Los Angeles sports betting bookie, so it made sense that his character might run into a few high-roller celebrities during his travels. In early drafts of that Lorre and Bakay script, the character was left as a “TBD” — to be determined.

The original script, by Mike Vukadinovich (Showtime’s “Kidding”), piles on the narrative swerves, yet never at the expense of logic or motivation, showing off a macabre sense of humor with sharp dialogue. “I read close to 150 scripts in the 10 months after we finished ‘Old Henry,’ and only a few of them made a lasting impression.
