A stomach doctor has warned against heating up leftovers in plastic containers, as doing so could be risky to health.
Using old takeaway containers or lunchboxes to store food in for the next day is an all too common practice, especially bunging the whole thing in the microwave to quickly make a warm meal. But according to one gastroenterologist, this could be a bad idea.
Harvard trained Dr Saurabh Sethi has taken to social media to explain the potential pitfalls of microwave cooking. While he believes it to be an ideal way to cook in retaining foods' nutrients over methods like frying, it's what they are contained in that makes the difference.
Speaking to his more than 330,000 TikTok followers, he explained that there is actually a risk of food contamination from chemicals used to manufacture these plastic containers. He also revealed what container is better to use instead.
