Rail strikes have become a frequent occurrence over recent months, with workers having taken industrial action on a number of occasions since June.

ASLEF members, the UK's train driver's union, are striking today, which has led to no Avanti, Northern or CrossCountry trains running and a limited service from TransPennine.
Saturday (October 8) will see RMT members striking, with both unions having voted 'resoundingly' in favour of the action after saying companies have not provided them with a pay rise to match inflation.
Speaking about the strike action, ASLEF General Secretary Mick Whelan said: "We would much rather not be in this position. We don’t want to go on strike – withdrawing our labour, although a fundamental human right, is always a last resort for this trade union – but the train companies have been determined to force our hand."
