John Boyega has said he’s been calling Jamie Foxx since the latter experienced a medical emergency earlier this year.In April the Django Unchained actor was admitted to hospital for an unspecified “medical complication“. His daughter, Corinne Foxx, later confirmed that he had left hospital and was “recuperating”.Foxx, who stars in the new sci-fi comedy-mystery film They Cloned Tyrone, was unable to attend the premiere Wednesday (June 14) at the American Black Film Festival, but his co-stars sent their well wishes.“I wanted him to show up here, but you know, I know he’s dealing with what he’s dealing with, and we just wish him all the best,” Boyega told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet. The British actor added that he hadn’t been able to connect with Foxx just yet, but said: “I’ve been calling, I’m just gonna keep on calling. Angelique Jackson Growing up in South London, “They Cloned Tyrone” star John Boyega would sit on his mattress watching Jamie Foxx act up on “The Jamie Foxx Show” or his Oscar-winning portrayal of Ray Charles in “Ray.” So, getting the opportunity to team up with Foxx for the conspiracy caper “They Cloned Tyrone,” was a dream come true. “That’s someone that I’m very much inspired by,” Boyega told Variety on the red carpet at the American Black Film Festival, where the Netflix movie was the opening night selection. “He’s definitely been one of the major hands behind my career that helped me to get roles, get opportunities and I appreciate it.” Of course, Boyega has come a long way from watching movies and TV in his bedroom. After breaking onto the scene in “Attack the Block” and then playing Finn in the latest “Star Wars” trilogy,” Boyega has starred as King Ghenzo in the critically acclaimed film “The Woman King,” portrayed a military veteran with PTSD in “Breaking,” and delivered a Golden Globe-winning performance in Steve McQueen’s “Small Axe” anthology series. In late April, New Regency announced that John Hillcoat will adapt Cormac McCarthy‘s “Blood Meridian” for the big screen, Hillcoat’s second McCarthy adaptation after 2009’s “The Road.” Regarded in literary circles as one of the greatest American novels of all time, McCarthy’s epic western about the human scalping trade in the Southwest 1850s isn’t for the faint of heart. And for a director, helming a film like “Blood Meridian” represents equal parts passion and masochism.
