Diddy Slams Recording Academy: ‘Black Music Has Never Been Respected by the Grammys’ (Watch)

BERLIN — BMG announced today a new global recordings partnership with platinum-selling artist, Aloe Blacc. The singer, whose distinctive vocals can be heard on the late Avicii's soaring hit "Wake Me Up," paired the announcement with the release of a Valentine's Day single, "I Do." Inspired by his decade-long marriage with Australian recording artist Maya Jupiter, 'I Do' is the first single from Blacc's upcoming fourth album, to be released later this year via BMG.

One of the most moving moments of a largely subdued Grammys came during the Nipsey Hussle tribute featuring Meek Mill, DJ Khaled, John Legend, and more. Meek Mill has now gone one step further, recruiting Roddy Ricch for new song "Letter to Nipsey." Atlantic Records has confirmed that all proceeds will benefit Nipsey Hussle’s family.

Fresh off his win at the2020 GRAMMY Awards, DJ Khaled shared his reaction to Sean «Diddy» Combs calling out the Recording Academy’s lack of diversity. 

Kirk Franklin,DJ Khaled,John Legend,Meek Mill,Roddy RicchandYG came together to posthumously honor Nipsey Hussle at the 62ndGrammy Awards on Sunday.Hussle was killed outside of his South Los Angeles clothing store in March 2019. The musician was shot multiple times and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Rap mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs took aim at the beleaguered Recording Academy bosses for their treatment of hip-hop acts as he accepted one of the organisation’s top prizes on Saturday (25Jan20).

Before DJ Khaled, John Legend, and a host of others pay tribute to Nipsey Hussle tonight, the Los Angeles rapper became a Grammy winner for the first time. 

Diddy was recognized with the 2020 Grammy Salute to Industry Icons Award during the Recording Academy and Clive Davis’ annual Pre-GRAMMY Gala on Saturday. 

In the wake of legal disputes surrounding the Recording Academy, Diddy took on the institution while accepting the Salute to Industry Icons Award at a pre-Grammy gala on January 25. Toward the end of his 40-minute speech, he called out the lack of diversity and transparency at the Grammys.
