In the most recent instalment of Escape to the Country, viewers were introduced to Carol and William from Hertfordshire, who decided it was time to downsize from their substantial 5-bedroom house as their children had flown the nest.
Carol, however, had a more pressing reason for seeking a new beginning away from the home they'd lived in for almost 30 years. She revealed: "I am registered blind, partially sighted and I would really like to be able to have a bit more freedom to get to the shops by myself."
As they explored potential new locales, it became clear that integrating into a vibrant community and finding a smaller, more manageable home was at the top of their list. William agreed, expressing a desire for: "Something more rural with some countryside and a gentler pace of life."
Tasked with finding the ideal property was Jules Hudson, who was briefed on the couple's preferences which included an open plan layout, a secure garden for their dog, and a budget ceiling of £900,000.
The couple also highlighted the importance of being close to local services and having a home filled with natural light, ideally with three bedrooms. Before meeting them, presenter Jules emphasised the importance of considering Carol's needs in his search, as reported by the Express.
He said: "Fundamentally, understanding how she sees the world is going to be crucial to finding properties that will absolutely deliver."
When Jules finally met Carol and William, reports the Mirror, he learned more about Carol's vision impairment. Carol, who has limited sight, told Jules: "I can see, but everything is a bit dark."
