“I just get so excited when people come to me for a project.
I start screaming with excitement.”Her latest project—besides her work with de la Renta and Monse, among other things—is the launch of the Laura Kim x Crate & Barrel collection, that leans into Kim's extensive fashion background.
It's an organic collaboration given her that features food, design, fashion, beauty, and entertaining.But when I mention I don't know how she keeps up with her hectic, way-more-work-than-it-looks career, Kim is open about the sobering reality of her busy lifestyle.
“I thought I was going to die last week, honestly,” she says.
“I was doing IVF and hosting events at night, on top of my regular jobs, and my boyfriend and I are closing on our apartment.
I love to work and love doing projects that are outside of fashion because you learn something every time you do it.” And, well, “on top of it, they're paying me.”That kind of candor is almost unheard of in the fashion world, especially upon just meeting someone, but Laura Kim isn't just anyone.
You get the feeling that her brutal honesty and self-deprecation has only endeared her even more to everyone she crosses paths with.
In her mind, if being this candid helps others, it's all worth it.“People should be more open about the whole process of IVF because I think our next generation should benefit from knowing the options,” she says.
“I am trying to get my CEO to pay for younger staff to get IVF.
