David Tennant has set his sights on a dream role, but admits he might not be good enough for the part.
The Scottish actor, 52, is set to reprise his iconic role in Doctor Who later this year for the 60th Anniversary special alongside Catherine Tate. Tennant originally played the Timelord from 2005-2010, and reprised his role again in 2013 for the 50th Anniversary with Matt Smith.
Tennant transformed into the 14th Doctor, following Jodie Whitakers last scene as the 13th incantation of the Time Lord. During an appearance at New York Comic Con, David appeared and was due to discuss his role in the series but due to the SAG strike he was unable to discuss past, present or future projects.
Instead, the Scots actor chatted to the audience about a role he would love to have - in a musical. “The thing about musicals is the people who do it well are so good,” he told the audience.
“I have been very privileged over the years to see, like I saw Ben Platt in Evan Hanson, Idina Menzel in Wicked, you know?
“When you see someone like that, who can really knock out the park. You sit there and you go, Well, what's the point? Unless you can reach those heights? You probably should leave it there.”
“I'd love to do a musical, I would love to, but I'd love to sort of be able to,” he added. “I'd love to be able to open my mouth, make one of those noises that make you go a bit funny, you know, that make your bum go a bit tingly!”
“Listen, never say never, because if you can do it, what a wonderful, wonderful thing,” he concluded. “But you know, I don't know. I just feel there's probably people who are better at it than me so I should probably leave it to them. Stay in your lane.
“Having said that, if the right thing comes up, I'll be there!”
