Dancing on Ice fans have slammed the show for an "insensitive" moment aired amid the Nicola Bulley investigation. Sunday night's episode saw the contestants compete in movie week, where each performance was inspired by a movie. Coronation Street actress Mollie Gallagher and Sylvain Longchambon wore some sparkly silver jumpsuits as they performed to the Ghostbusters theme tune.
At the start of the routine, the show cut to an ITV News studio, which introduced the dance by sharing how there were reports of "paranormal activities", in a nod to the 1980s classic film. Newsreader Lucrezia Millarini announced: “We interrupt this programme with news of a sudden rise in supernatural sightings. The cause of the outbreak is currently unknown but we're assured experts have arrived to deal with the issue.” After Lucrezia read the ‘news’, viewers were quickly taken back to Dancing on Ice to see Mollie and Sylvain starting their routine to the famous theme song to the 80s film. Viewers soon realised that the bulletin was all part of the performance as an introduction to the routine.
However, some failed to see the fun in it as they found it disrespectful after the investigation surrounding Nicola Bulley's disappearance that has been all over the news in recent weeks. She went missing while walking her dog in St Michael's on Wyre in Lancashire three weeks ago. Dancing on Ice viewers took to Twitter as the fake news bulletin had been made and expressed both their confusion as well as anger towards ITV claiming that it was insensitive.
