Dalbeattie Star go into the New Year having been top of the tree at Christmas.
And Eddie Warwick is full of praise for his side’s efforts – even if a couple of results still rankle.
Star moved to the top of the Utility Hut South of Scotland League by beating Mid Annandale 6-1 in their final game of 2023.
Warwick said: “I’m meticulous and I’m slightly frustrated at a couple of points we’ve dropped. It haunts me a bit.

“They’re training twice a week, and when they’re not, there’s a gym session to be done.
“We have a game in hand to extend it further, but we have teams in and around the top four of five still to play.
“I’d still rather be in my position than any other position.”
This season has been a rebuild for Star following their relegation from the Lowland League last term, and over the festive period forwards Ross Hunter and Dale Milligan signed new deals to keep them at Islecroft until the summer of 2025.
They head into the New Year two points clear of Newton Stewart, who have played a game more. Creetown are two points further back but have a game in hand over Star.
And despite Star’s players having no games between December 16 and
