On March 30 2002, the Queen Mother passed away at the age of 101.The nation mourned its favourite member of the Royal Family, who always had a wide smile and a wave for everyone who met her. It’s true, the Queen Mother was seen as a sweet and cuddly grandmother. But behind her twinkling eyes was a strong woman with a steely reputation, as Jennie Bond tells OK!.The former BBC royal correspondent recalls: “The Queen Mother was called ‘steel in a velvet glove’ but she was tough as boots inside.
“She was the strength behind this shy and timid King who was thrust into a role he never wanted.” While the people of Britain cooed over the charming royal, some members of the monarchy experienced her determined side. Jennie adds: “Princess Diana once told me that she found the Queen Mother intimidating. She was not the cuddling figure that she was often portrayed to be.” She knew exactly what the public needed from her, displaying her warm and charming character outside of the palace walls.
But, according to Jennie, she was a different woman behind the scenes. “She was very good at her own PR but very different behind closed doors, and terribly right wing.” Two decades on from her death, the Queen displays many of her mother’s most admirable traits. “I think the Queen has a legacy of being so stalwart, dutiful and measured.
Diana told me, ‘I adore that woman, I’d do anything for her and I admire her’. “There’s a massive amount of adoration and respect for the Queen.” At 95 years old, the Queen has a full life of love, duty and wisdom that her mother also experienced. From 1993, the Queen Mother began to tire and was occasionally spotted using a wheelchair or even a golf buggy.

Following a series of health setbacks, royal followers are wondering if Prince Harry is visiting the Queen anytime soon. We don’t quite know what the pages will reveal, but royal author Phil Dampier says it’ll be ‘sensational’ and full of ‘festering issues’ that Harry can’t put to bed - and we won’t be able to resist. Mr Damper told MailOnline: “Harry’s [book] will be a best-seller.

Kate Middleton is shaping up to be a perfect future Queen and according to a royal expert, she’s met the monarchy’s high standards. While there’s ‘not a lot’ she would admire about Meghan Markle, says expert Jennie Bond, she’d definitely have approved of Duchess Kate. The former BBC royal correspondent tells OK!: “Kate is turning out to be the real deal.
It’s been 20 years since Her Majesty the Queen lost her mother, and a lot has changed for our Royal Family. When the Queen Mother was alive, the monarchy wouldn’t allow royals to wed divorcees. But the rules have been bent in recent times and Prince Harry was allowed to marry Meghan Markle.
