Cristiano Ronaldo has stressed his delight at getting back among the goals after helping Manchester United post their first Europa League win of the season with a 2-0 triumph over Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova on Thursday evening.
After watching Jadon Sancho open the scoring with less than 20 minutes on the clock, Ronaldo netted his first goal of the season shortly before half-time, converting an effort from the penalty spot. It ensured United went into the half-time interval firmly in control.
United continued to dominate proceedings after half-time but did so without threatening the Sheriff goal too much. They enjoyed plenty of possession but clear-cut chances were at a premium.

Nevertheless, it was a professional and measured away performance from United, ensuring they secured a first win of their Group E campaign with minimal fuss. And for Ronaldo, who kept his place in the starting line-up at the expense of the injured Marcus Rashford, it was a solid night's work.
