A 'cowardly' mother has been found guilty of murdering her 15-year-old son after the teenager suffered a campaign of torture at the hands of her and her partner. Agnieszka Kalinowska, 35, and her long-term partner Andrzej Latoszewski, 38, were both found guilty of murder at Leeds Crown Court following a trial.
Sebastian Kalinowski died of an infection caused by “untreated complications of multiple rib fractures” in August last year, the court heard. Prosecutors told the jury that he was subjected to “cruel assaults and abuse” in the weeks leading up to his death, having been beaten with a bed slat, whipped with an extension cable and stabbed with a needle by the pair.
Prosecutor Jason Pitter QC said emergency services were called to the defendants’ house in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, by Latoszewski on August 13, 2021, “after Sebastian had been unconscious for some two and a half hours”. The court heard that an examination of Sebastian revealed injuries including bruising to his buttocks, forehead, jaw, abdomen, arms and legs, and multiple rib fractures.

The couple were arrested and police seized CCTV cameras from their house. Prosecutors said the cameras had been installed partly to “monitor and exert control over Sebastian remotely”.
Mr Pitter said the defendants’ telephones and CCTV footage, which was shown in court, “document the catalogue of abuse that Sebastian had endured before his death”. Sebastian, who was described by school staff as “a pleasant and well-mannered boy” who was "quiet and timid, and at times appeared sad” was attacked "principally and most severely by Latoszewski" but also by his mother
