Countdown star Rachel Riley has celebrated TV presenter Colin Murray taking over hosting the Channel 4 programme today, months after Anne Robinson quit. Colin is no stranger to the timer though, having already had a stint on Countdown after Anne quit the game show earlier this year. The former Weakest Link host confirmed her exit in May after recording 265 episodes, admitting she’d stayed ‘longer than I signed up for.
’At the time, Colin – who is best known for fronting Match Of The Day 2 – acted as her ‘stand in’. Now he’s back, with Rachel announcing the news on Twitter, alongside a behind-the-scenes snap of herself, Colin and Susie Dent. She penned: ‘Today this lovely bloke @ColinMurray takes over hosting @C4Countdown.
‘He loves the show, the game, the contestants and the team and we all love him. ‘Catch us weekdays same time, same place 2. 10pm.
’When Colin temporarily took over in May, he addressed the exciting gig on Twitter, writing: ‘I’m like the assistant manager, given the job until end of season. ‘Earn respect of dressing room (@susie_dent @RachelRileyRR), get some points on the board, try to win a trophy! 75 games to get it right!‘Absolute honour. Fav show ever.
July 14 to start of Nov. ’Anne quit amid rumours of a rift between her and Rachel, however she’s previously branded them nonsense. The 77-year-old presenter took over from The Apprentice’s Nick Hewer on the popular game show last year, becoming its sixth presenter and the first female to take the role.
