House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reminded her congressional colleagues to adhere to coronavirus guidelines while in session after members of both parties were accused of not taking the pandemic seriously, including during Pelosi's reading of the oath of office. Pelosi sent a letter to her fellow members of Congress reminding them of the rules on Monday and addressed the issue from the House floor after receiving backlash for allowing a large number of members to gather too close together.

House lawmakers abandoned social distancing protocols on Sunday evening as Speaker Nancy Pelosi read the oath to officially swear in the new freshman members of the 117th Congress.
