Before film’s biggest night of the year, the stars hit the red carpet for fashion’s biggest annual event. While stars wore Chanel, Dior and Elie Saab to the Oscars, there was one outfit that stood out in particular; Sandy Powell’s cream suit.

Costume designers have been fighting for pay equity for years, gearing up for their 2021 contract negotiations by establishing a committee highlighting the difference in pay between the mostly female Costumer Designers Guild and the primarily male membership of the Art Directors Guild Local 800. According to Amy Roth, who designed costumes on “Motherless Brooklyn” and “Madame Secretary,” those gender issues are at the heart of the matter.

In one of the final episodes of the second season of Hulu’s “Shrill,” Annie, played by Aidy Bryant, says, “It’s such a hunt to find cool clothes for fat women.”

Just ahead of Valentine’s Day, Academy Award-winning costume designer Ruth Carter (the first black woman to win the honor last year for her work on Ryan Coogler’s blockbuster film Black Panther) will debut her very first fashion collection, in partnership with H&M, on Thursday, Feb.

Laika’s latest stop-motion feature, “Missing Link,” recently won a Golden Globe for animated film, and picked up an Oscar nomination as well. It’s the story of late Victorian-era Sir Lionel (voiced by Hugh Jackman), who discovers a creature resembling a yeti in the Pacific Northwest (Zach Galifianakis).

Last night, the Costume Designers Guild had their say in the Oscar race. The 22nd annual CDG Awards were held and with only two of the five Academy Award nominees in the running here, all eyes were on this group to see if that might tell us anything. At the 22nd annual Costume Designers Guild Awards on Tuesday evening, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, host Mindy Kaling wore a special dress custom-designed for her by CDG president Salvador Pérez Jr., The Hollywood Reporterhas exclusively learned."It’s the most glamorous night of awards season; Oscars schmoscars!"
