Premier League clubs have voted in favour of reforming the Under-21s league with the introduction of an expanded one-tier format without any promotion or relegation.
It comes after a season-long review following concerns that the current games programme was not best preparing players for the step-up to senior football.
At the moment, Category One clubs compete across two divisions in the Premier League, with 14 teams in the top-tier and 11 teams in the bottom-tier.
The decision to introduce the 'Swiss model' was voted through by shareholders at the Premier League Annual General Meeting last week.

It is the same format that will be used in the Champions League starting in the 2024/25 season, with teams seeded into pots based on their historical performance in the competition over the preceding three years.
The 25 teams competing in the revamped Premier League 2 will be seeded into five pots of five teams and will see teams play each club in their own pot plus four or five teams from the other pots.
After all those matches have been completed, the combined table will determine play-off positions, with the top 16 teams qualifying for the final knockout format.
United finished ninth in Premier League 2 Division One this season, having finished sixth and eighth in the previous two seasons, respectively, and so will likely be included in Pot 2.
Many teams have been in favour of removing relegation from the current model because they feel that maintaining league positions can often overshadow the importance of developing players instead.
