The Colorado Bureau of Investigations launched a probe Tuesday into potential serial killings after human remains were discovered at two separate properties near a rural town in San Luis Valley.

A Denver man accused of gunning down a 21-year-old woman over a feud about dog defecation reportedly fired off 24 shots from a semi-automatic rifle in the attack. The revelations about 24-year-old suspect Michael Close’s alleged ambush that left Isabella Thallas dead and wounded her 27-year-old boyfriend, Darian Simon, were disclosed at the suspect’s preliminary court hearing on Monday, KDVR reported.

A hunter in Colorado was rescued on Saturday night after a search team happened to take a look in an area where he wasn’t thought to be. The hunter, who was not identified, had reportedly been given access to hunt elk on private land along with his hunting group, who set out earlier in the day and separated, with the intention of regrouping before dark, CBS4 reported.The man lost his bearings, however, and phoned his group from the top of a ridge in order to let them know he was lost.

A surge in coronavirus cases in one Colorado county has left contact tracers there strapped for resources and unable to complete contact tracing for all new cases, according to local health officials.  Health officials in El Paso County warned this week that a “high volume” of cases may prevent tracers from being able to “complete contact tracing for all positive COVID-19 cases.” Contact tracing efforts in some instances will be left up to residents who test positive, per officials.

The COVID-19 pandemic has fueled “explosive” state park attendance in Colorado as people have looked for safe ways to get out of the house, and now Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is looking to expand. Exactly where remains to be seen, but the state agency is open to suggestions.

As coronavirus cases continue to increase in Colorado, hospitals across the state are seeing staffing shortages, according to a local report.  COVID-19 cases in Colorado have surged in recent weeks, with some 22,000 new cases of the virus reported in the state last week alone. The rise in cases coincides with an estimated 24% of hospitals across Colorado expected to experience staffing shortages within the next week, local station KRDO reported.

Coronavirus hospitalizations in Colorado are expected to hit a record high this week, state health officials warned. "We're seeing a steep rise in hospitalizations and mounting pressure on the hospital system," said Rachel Herlihy, an epidemiologist with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, during a news conference, according to local outlet Out There Colorado.

Colorado voters passed Proposition 113 Tuesday night, officially joining the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. That accord seeks to unite states that are attempting to remove the disconnect between the popular vote results and the count in the Electoral College.

Colorado saw another blue wave Tuesday night, again riding the coattails of 2016’s and 2018’s Democratic trend in the state, by flipping a Senate seat and electing John Hickenlooper to the the upper chamber of Congress..
