NEW YORK -- A leading independent bookstore, the Colorado-based Tattered Cover, has been sold to a group of investors and will become the country's largest Black-led bookseller.An investment group led by Denver natives Kwame Spearman, who will serve as CEO and operations manager, and David Back purchased the Tattered Cover for an undisclosed amount of money. The previous owners, Len Vlahos and Kristen Gilligan, will remain in an unofficial capacity through June.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis' husband, Marlon Reis, has been taken to the hospital for treatment following worsening COVID-19 symptoms, according to a press release from the governor's office Sunday.  "Over the last 24 hours, First Gentleman Marlon Reis started to experience a slightly worsening cough and shortness of breath on day eight after being diagnosed with COVID," the governor's office said in the statement.

Officials say a 10-year-old was killed in a Colorado sledding accident Friday after sliding underneath a Ford pickup truck.  Colorado State Police say Roberto Jaramillo Herrera was towing four children on the back of a Ford F-250 truck on a "snowpacked, icy roadway" when Ayleen Herrera lost control of her sled.  The accident occurred just before 6 p.m.

Colorado bar owner Morgen Harrington said on Tuesday that she is “incredibly frustrated” with new coronavirus restrictions in the state, which prohibit indoor dining, and joined a pact of nearly 100 bars and restaurants that are continuing to serve customers inside.

USC’s football game against Colorado scheduled for Saturday at the Coliseum has been canceled and will be declared a no-contest. The action was taken by the Pac-12 because USC does not have the minimum number of scholarship players available for the game at a specific position group as a result of a number of positive COVID-19 cases. The Colorado Bureau of Investigations launched a probe Tuesday into potential serial killings after human remains were discovered at two separate properties near a rural town in San Luis Valley.

A Denver man accused of gunning down a 21-year-old woman over a feud about dog defecation reportedly fired off 24 shots from a semi-automatic rifle in the attack. The revelations about 24-year-old suspect Michael Close’s alleged ambush that left Isabella Thallas dead and wounded her 27-year-old boyfriend, Darian Simon, were disclosed at the suspect’s preliminary court hearing on Monday, KDVR reported.

A hunter in Colorado was rescued on Saturday night after a search team happened to take a look in an area where he wasn’t thought to be. The hunter, who was not identified, had reportedly been given access to hunt elk on private land along with his hunting group, who set out earlier in the day and separated, with the intention of regrouping before dark, CBS4 reported.The man lost his bearings, however, and phoned his group from the top of a ridge in order to let them know he was lost.

A surge in coronavirus cases in one Colorado county has left contact tracers there strapped for resources and unable to complete contact tracing for all new cases, according to local health officials.  Health officials in El Paso County warned this week that a “high volume” of cases may prevent tracers from being able to “complete contact tracing for all positive COVID-19 cases.” Contact tracing efforts in some instances will be left up to residents who test positive, per officials.
