‘Dream Scenario’ Review: In a Career of More Than 100 Credits, This Nightmare Ranks Among Nicolas Cage’s Best

Peter Debruge Chief Film Critic Just when you thought Nicolas Cage’s filmography couldn’t get any weirder, along comes Kristoffer Borgli’s “Dream Scenario” to mess with your head. Cage plays a character you probably wouldn’t notice in real life: Paul Matthews. Schlubby, balding, in wrinkled pants and brown leather loafers, he’s a tenured professor at a university you’ve never heard of, droning on year after year about collective consciousness and the wisdom of the herd.

Since the arrival of Love Island in 2015, fans have been demanding a spin-off for singles from an older generation - and ITV has finally answered our prayers with My Mum, Your Dad.The 10-part series takes a group of parents looking for a second chance at romance and invites them to a country house retreat, where they’ll head off on dates and mingle with other eligible empty-nesters. ‘Maestro’ Review: Bradley Cooper’s Triumphant Turn As Leonard Bernstein Is A Love Story On More Than One Level – Venice Film Festival

Hollywood has had a very spotty record in telling the complete truths of some of our great musical geniuses. 1946’s Night And Day, an attempted, but really fictionalized, biopic on the life of Cole Porter with Cary Grant, totally ignored his real life homosexuality as well as sham marriage. That is just one example. The latest in the genre, Maestro having its World Premiere tonight at the Venice Film Festival, does not attempt to be a biopic at all on the great Leonard Bernstein, but instead puts its key focus on the relationship and 25 year marriage of Bernstein and his wife, Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, a star in her own right on the Broadway stage. All of it is presented including bringing up their three children – Jamie, Alexander, Nina – as well as Bernstein’s own bisexuality and attraction to younger men, not a secret to his wife.
