Coldplay Make a Righteous Noise With Prince Cover for NPR Tiny Desk Concert

Harry Styles is the latest big-name act to step into the NPR offices to record a Tiny Desk Concert. The British pop star remarked on his presence in the work environment ("It just feels like you're in the way") during his set, which was recorded prior to the Coronavirus pandemic sent the music industry into shutdown.

Harry Styles stopped by NPR for an intimate Tiny Desk Concert, performing four tracks from his new album, “Fine Line.”

Harry Styles took on a format we all may be getting more and more accustomed to when he and his band recently performed an installment of NPR’s long-running “Tiny Desk Concert” series. The series features musicians playing more or less acoustically in National Public Radio’s Washington, DC offices, and always offers an entertaining different side to the artist and the music.

Harry Styles' Tiny Desk performance has got us falling. On Monday, the "Adore You" singer performed stripped-down versions of his hit songs from his new album Fine Line for the intimate fan-favorite NPR concert series.  Donning a knit blue sweater, which he layered on top of a beige striped collared shirt, and joined by members of his band, Harry kicked things off with "Cherry," where the former One Direction star describes the aftermath of his 2018 breakup with model Camille Rowe.

Coldplay might be more used to playing stadiums than office buildings but the band are the latest act to record a concert for NPR's Tiny Desk series. Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland of the band were joined by a host of backing singers (who Martin joked have "Photoshopped our songs to be much better than they actually are") for the live session, which you can view above.

Coldplay were the latest guests on NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concert” series. They marked the occasion with a cover of the Prince classic “1999,” as well as playing “Viva La Vida”—from the 2008 album of the same name—and “Cry Cry Cry,” “Broken,” and “Champion of the World” from last year’s Everyday Life. They were backed throughout by the For Love Choir.

A tiny concert was the perfect place for Coldplay to pay tribute to Prince.
