Classic FM radio presenter Jamie Crick has sadly died aged 57. The tragic news was announced by his family, who said he passed away on Tuesday, just hours after he hosted his last ever radio show.
He had been working for over two decades on the radio station before hosting the breakfast and then afternoon drive-time slot on Jazz FM. His employer, Bauer Media, stated that the broadcaster died following a short illness.
"Jamie Crick was a broadcaster through and through and played an integral role on our radio stations," a spokesperson for Bauer Media UK said.
They added: "He was also a great friend to his colleagues at Jazz FM, Scala Radio and the wider Bauer Media teams. He will be sorely missed by them all, along with his friends and listeners.
"Our radio stations have a big gap to fill and will pay tribute accordingly in the near future, but while they all come to terms with Jamie's unexpected passing, they will continue to broadcast the music that he loved in his honour every day. Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones at this time."
Jazz FM was also among those who paid tributes on social media, as reports the Mirror, as they shared an image of Jamie on Twitter, now known as X, and wrote: "We are incredibly sad to announce that our friend and Jazz FM Family Member Jamie Crick has sadly died following a short illness. Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones at this time."
During his career, Jamie also hosted shows on Scala Radio and helped to launch the UK's first LGBTQ+ radio station back in 2001 named Gayday Radio before joining Bauer Media UK’s Jazz FM in 2014.
He started out as a guest presenter before taking over the breakfast show and then moving to the afternoon slot in 2016.
