‘Oppenheimer’ Sets Post-Oscars Release Date in Japanese Cinemas

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief Indie distributor Bitters End has finally set a theatrical release date in Japan for Christopher Nolan’s lauded “Oppenheimer” – after the Oscars. The film will arrive in Japanese cinemas on March 29, the company said on Thursday. That date is some two and a half weeks after the Oscars ceremony (March 10 in Los Angeles, March 11 in Japan), at which “Oppenheimer” has a strong chance of winning multiple awards. At the Oscars nomination event, earlier this week, “Oppenheimer” became the front-runner, collecting 13 nods, including best picture, best director and a trio of acting nominations.A post shared by 映画会社ビターズ・エンド (@bitters_end) Despite its critical and commercial success in cinemas around the world last year – it earned $952 million – the film is controversial in Japan.

Christopher Nolan Hates Getting Recognized in Public, According to Robert Downey Jr.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Robert Downey Jr. trekked to Sundance Film Festival‘s opening night gala to reveal that a “terrible tragedy” has befallen Christopher Nolan. But don’t worry about the filmmaker behind “Oppenheimer.” His hardship is really just a bad case of the blues, and it’s because Nolan — as Downey explained on Thursday while bestowing Nolan with the first-ever Trailblazer Award — “has become recognizable on the street.” According to Downey, the critical and commercial success of “Oppenheimer” causes the British director to recoil, “as though from a hot flame, from this new and unwelcome reality.” Well, Nolan may not be retreating from the spotlight anytime soon.

‘Oppenheimer’ wins big at the Critics Choice Awards – but Cillian Murphy misses out

Oppenheimer has won big at this year’s Critics Choice Awards, but actor Cillian Murphy missed out on receiving the award for Best Actor in one of the main upsets of the night.Christopher Nolan’s epic film about the father of the atomic bomb took home eight awards in total. Nolan earned the award for Best Director and Best Picture, while the film also saw Robert Downey Jr win the award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss, the former head of the US Atomic Energy Commission.Murphy lost out at the awards however to Paul Giamatti, who won Best Actor for his turn in The Holdovers. Collecting his award for best director, Nolan said: “To mangle a quote from Sir Isaac Newton, ‘If I appear tall it’s because I stand on the shoulders of giants’ – the particular giants I am standing on is Kai (Bird) and Marty (Sherwin) who wrote the incredible book American Prometheus and spent 25 years doing it.“I thank you Kai for trusting me with your work and Marty, unfortunately he left us before I was able to show him the final script, but Kai your constant reassurances once you saw the film that he would have approved meant the world to me.”Downey Jr meanwhile used his acceptance speech for Best Supported Actor to take joking aim at the critics who have reviewed him negatively in the past.He said: “I was thinking this morning, I just love critics… you know, they’ve given me such beautiful feedback, really just so many great moments, and some of it is so poetic.

‘Oppenheimer’: Cillian Murphy On His “Instinctual” Approach, The “Genius” Of Christopher Nolan & Some Bowie Inspiration

For Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy plunged deep into the mind and physicality of an iconic scientist that irrevocably changed our world. At once complex, conflicting, stylish and brilliant, Oppenheimer’s life and work is not an immediately obvious choice for an epic blockbuster subject. And yet, Christopher Nolan’s decision to ask his longtime collaborator Murphy to step into the physicist’s shoes resulted in a cinematic experience that would outstrip every superhero movie at the box office last year. Here, Murphy describes inhabiting the man behind the atom bomb and why he always delights in working with Nolan.
