Christian Eriksen has explained how a phone call from Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag helped convince the midfielder to choose Old Trafford during the summer.
After signing a six-month contract at Brentford on transfer deadline day last January, the Denmark international was keen to keep his options open as the transfer window opened with the player still a free agent. Eriksen excelled after returning to the Premier League in west London, creating more chances than all but Kevin De Bruyne and Martin Odegaard since featuring for the first time in late February.
Unsurprisingly, United soon came calling after the season was over as they eyed a bargain. Eriksen recalled how the move happened ahead of returning from injury against Everton.

“Well, I ended up being at Brentford until the summer, obviously and the contract was running out,” Eriksen explains on the latest episode of theUTD Podcast. “So I was free to talk to other clubs and I kept my possibilities open.
“At the time, I wasn’t closed down on going back to Brentford, I wanted to see what else came in or [if] something could tempt me away from how good it was there. And then, of course, United came in.”
Eriksen added: “[I was] speaking to the manager [Erik ten Hag] on the phone and then I could actually see myself going to United.
“Luckily, they pulled through [to make the move] and I did as well. So, in the end, coming here was definitely very special.”
The midfielder has made 32 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice and assisting another nine goals for his teammates.
