Coldplay frontman Chris Martin recently shared the super strict diet he follows and professionals have slammed it
The 46-year-old said he eats just one meal a day, mimicking the eating plan of superstar Bruce Springsteen. The singer admitted he became envious of the his lean and muscular physique and noticed that Bruce only ate once while having lunch with him at his Philadelphia home.
This prompted him to change his eating habits after becoming inspired by the 73-year-old rock star, who Martin said "looked even in more shape" than himself. However, an expert nutritionist has slammed the so-called eating plan and is warning others not to follow suit.
Speaking on the Conan O'Brien needs a friend podcast, he told the comedian: "I actually don’t have dinner anymore. I stop eating at 4[pm] and I learned that from having lunch with Bruce Springsteen", reports the Mirror.
“I was lucky enough to go over there to lunch the day after we played Philadelphia last year." He continued.
"I was on a really strict diet anyway. But I was like ‘Bruce looks even more in shape than me’ and Patti [Springsteen’s wife] said he’s only eating one meal a day.
"I was like ‘well, there we go. That’s my next challenge'."
The father of two has since faced backlash, with professional slamming his eating habits.
Abigail Roberts, a nutritionist at bulk.com, has warned fans not to follow the Yellow singer's strict regime, explaining it could be "worryingly unhealthy".
"Eating just one meal per day can be considered an extreme form of intermittent fasting. Unless the meal contains all the necessary nutrients and calories required by the body, it's unlikely to be a healthy approach to eating, especially if done over a long period," the expert explained.
