Chris Hemsworth revealed he would scale back his Hollywood career after discovering he's at risk of Alzheimer's disease. But the Aussie actor, 39, has been forced to hit the grueling promotional trail for his forthcoming Netflix action film, Extraction 2. The Thor star was spotted arriving in Sydney on a private jet from Byron Bay on Monday.
Chris showed off his buff physique in dark jeans and an open collared shirt worn over a white singlet as he strolled through Sydney Airport. He was joined by his best mate Aaron Grist for the subsequent long haul flight to Los Angeles. Once inside the terminal, Chris went incognito beneath a black beanie and dark sunglasses.
The work trip comes after the actor announced that his film career will take a back seat following a discovery he's at risk of Alzheimer's disease. The Rush actor told Vanity Fair last November he has decided to take 'time off' after filming a confronting episode about death on his new Disney+ docu-series Limitless. After having bloodwork done for the program, he was informed he is 'between eight and 10 times' likelier to develop Alzheimer's than the general population, because he is one of only two to three percent of people with two copies of the gene APOE4.
However, there are evidently a number of steps that people in his position can take to reduce their level of risk, such as ensuring they get a good night's sleep, curbing their alcohol intake and cutting out cigarettes, according to the CDC. As a result, Chris reacted to the news of his own predisposition to Alzheimer's by cultivating a healthier lifestyle. 'Doing an episode on death and facing your own mortality made me go, "Oh God, I'm not ready to go yet",' he told the publication.

Chris Hemsworth has said that he doesn’t want to continue playing Thor until people are “exhausted” and “roll their eyes”.The Australian actor has played the God Of Thunder in four solo films and nine Marvel movies altogether: Thor (2011), Thor: The Dark World (2013), Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022).However, he’s cast some doubt about whether he would be open to reprising the role again. “I’ve got to be careful how I word that because I have no idea what’s happening in the next phase,” Hemsworth told Entertainment Weekly.“There’s always conversations, like with Extraction. Before anything is official, people are throwing around ideas.

Chris Hemsworth is getting ready to celebrate his 40th birthday this summer, but he's not even close to slowing down! When the actor and his director, Sam Hargrave, sat down with ET's Rachel Smith to promote their thrilling Netflix sequel this week, Hemsworth was quick to clarify comments that got «sort of blown out of proportion» about him taking a step back from acting.Last fall, the star told that he planned to take some time off after promoting his unscripted Disney+ adventure series,. The decision, he said at the time, coincided with an episode of the show on death, as well as one in which Hemsworth agreed to take a genetic test, which ultimately revealed that his risk of developing Alzheimer's is eight to 10 times higher than that of the general population — due to the fact that Hemsworth has two copies of APOE4 (the apolipoprotein E gene), one from his mom and one from his dad. After learning the results on the show, Hemsworth said in a confessional that «the idea that I won't be able to remember the life I've experienced, or my wife, my kids, is probably my biggest fear.»However, Hemsworth said, the decision to take a brief career break was not as connected to the genetic test as it may have seemed.«It all got a little sort of blown out of proportion,» he shared.

Chris Hemsworth started "asking bigger questions" after suffering a health scare in 2022. The 39-year-old actor previously took a step back from his career after discovering that his risk of developing Alzheimer's is eight to ten times higher than the average person, and Chris admits that it led him to look at life through a different lens. He told Entertainment Weekly: "It kind of slams you into the moment.
Courtney Howard A funny thing happened during our worldwide lockdown in 2020. With theaters shuttered, our immediate movie-going futures looking bleak and escapist entertainment becoming a therapeutic necessity, along came the rise of The Streaming Service Blockbuster — most notably “Extraction.” Stuntman-turned-director Sam Hargrave’s muscular albeit convoluted actioner, centered on a mercenary sent to rescue the kidnapped son of a crime lord, was handed a captive audience. All the folks at home made it a worldwide sensation for Netflix, and it continues to tear up the charts as their seventh most popular film ever (according to their internal, recently-released metrics). Three years later and armed with a far better, bloody and bruising quest for the laconic hero, Hargrave, star Chris Hemsworth and screenwriter Joe Russo return to the burgeoning franchise with “Extraction 2”. (The graphic novel “Ciudad,” upon which the first film was based, was written by Ande Parks from a story by Parks and the Russo brothers.) The filmmakers’ renewed vigor is our reward as, similar to its unfussy title, this sequel deals in clean-lined action and suspense, removing much of the excessive weight that bogged down the original. As its compelling lead character cuts through his personal strife whilst helping another family find the sense of freedom he too seeks, a new trail is blazed that recenters the series on bone-crunching brutality and bravado.
Extraction 2 star Chris Hemsworth is not only charming – and PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive! – he is also a talented actor, doting husband, and loving father to his three children: daughter, India Rose, and twin sons, Sasha and Tristan.
Chris Hemsworth is speaking out.
Extraction 2” comes in, with the director (also a stuntman and choreographer, though not on this film) returning after 2020’s first “Extraction,” a film (reportedly) received so well by the audiences that the filmmakers changed its ending and made a survivor out of its mercenary (anti)hero, Tyler Rake.Written by Joe Russo from a story by him, Anthony Russo and Ande Parks (also the creator of the source graphic novel, “Ciudad”), “Extraction 2” feels meatier in its action-packed set pieces than its predecessor, with Chris Hemsworth’s approachable and brawny Rake giving puppy avenger John Wick a genuine run for his money when it comes to high-kicks and knockouts. (Speaking of puppies, let’s not forget to mention that Rake’s sweet dog and pet chickens make it through this new mayhem in one piece.)All that said, “Extraction 2” largely skipping theaters for a quick sprint to streaming feels like a massively missed opportunity for Netflix.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director Chris Hemsworth has no idea what the future has in store for Thor, which is currently the only character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be at the center of four standalone movies (although Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is surely next). Hemsworth’s last Marvel outing, 2022’s “Thor: Love and Thunder,” turned off many Marvel fans with its silly humor and unappealing visual effects, so much so that even Hemsworth himself called the film “too silly.” In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hemsworth confirmed nothing is official regarding his Marvel return. He wants a potential “Thor 5” to be “unpredictable,” but he also doesn’t want to risk playing Thor for so long that Marvel fans start rolling their eyes.
Chris Hemsworth has already been a part of several epic franchises, but as an Australian, he might be the most excited to be part of !The star is set to appear in, the upcoming film that serves as both a prequel and sequel to 2015's , which stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the titular character, Imperator Furiosa, which was originated by Charlize Theron in «The young kid in me who grew up on watching and those films — that franchise has been running for 45 years,» he marveled. «To be involved in it in any shape or form was a dream, working with George Miller was the most incredible experience I've ever had.»However, there wasn't much more that Hemsworth could say about the role, noting, «It's a bit like working in the Marvel films… I can't give you nothing.»What he can talk about is the sequel to his high-octane Netflix thriller, in which Hemsworth stars as mercenary-for-hire Tyler Rake, who gets sent on a harrowing new mission that included plenty of death-defying stunts, many of which Hemsworth performed himself.«Everything that Sam Hargrave, our director, pitched me… I had both the enthusiasm and the excitement on one side of the brain and the fear and the hesitation on the other,» he said of the filming experience.
