Chris Evans shared a special fact about his beloved dog Dodger and the inspiration for his name.
The 41-year-old Captain America star adopted him back in 2015 while filming a movie in an animal shelter and referred to the adoption as “the best decision of my life” last year.
During a recent interview, he opened up about how he named the dog, and the way that a less well-known Disney movie inspired him.

While on Good Morning America, Chris recalled adopting “the real celebrity in the Evans household.”
“He’s such a sweetie,” he said about Dodger, adding that he was “cuteness overload.”
The conversation turned to how he named Dodger, and the inspiration came from Disney’s Oliver & Company, which was inspired by Charles Dickens‘ Oliver Twist.
“He was a street dog. He was a little orphan. You know, the Artful Dodger is kind of that… I wish I could just say it was a Charles Dickens reference. It’s actually a more animated reference. They did a movie – Oliver & Company – the movie I grew up on that’s based on Oliver Twist. The dog that played the Artful Dodger kind of looked like Dodger,” he explained.
Chris spoke out about adopting pets a couple years ago. More recently, he revealed if he was tempted to pick up his shield and become Captain America again.
