Hester Diamond — the mother of rapper Michael Diamond, otherwise known as Beastie Boys co-founder Mike D — has listed for $19.5 million, according to a StreetEasy listing update and a report in the New York Times. The residence has no fewer than 6,300 square feet of living space and more than 800 square feet of terrace space. The late Diamond, who died in 2020 at age 91, lived there for more than 50 years.
Diamond and her first husband, Harold Diamond — who died in 1982 at age 56 — moved into the Eldorado in the mid-1960s as renters. When the two-towered complex became a co-op in 1982, the couple purchased the duplex and an adjoining 19th-floor apartment.
David Diamond, the eldest son of Hester, told the Times his parents purchased both apartments for some $1.2 million — roughly $3.65 million in today’s figures. However, in November that year while renovations were ongoing, Harold passed away.“The renovation was completed in the summer of 1983, and the apartment was fully put back together in the fall,” David — a 63-year-old marketing and strategic planning consultant — told the Times.
“But by then, it was clear that the renovated apartment was really my mom’s apartment. It was, in a real sense, the start of her new life.”In 2009, meanwhile, the footprint grew larger after Hester Diamond purchased an adjacent two-bedroom unit on the 18th floor.
The listing shows the home is being marketed as a six-bedroom dwelling with seven full bathrooms and a powder room.“Pretty much every room in the house changed its function at least once during the 50 years my mom lived there,” Michael Diamond, 56, told the paper.During their time shared in the building, the couple began collecting art. Hester worked as a social worker, while

Pussy Riot’s Masha Alyokhina has escaped from Russia as president Vladimir Putin continues to crack down on dissidents in the country.Alyokhina, along with her bandmates, has been arrested and imprisoned multiple times over the past decade and more for publicly protesting Putin’s rule, most recently last year when she was detained for 48 hours after attending protests encouraging others to protest on social media.Amid the continued Russian invasion of Ukraine, a new story in The New York Times reveals that Alyokhina was under house arrest and, when authorities decided to turn that into a 21-day jail sentence last month, she decided to flee Russia. The story outlines Alyokhina’s escape, which included posing as a food courier and being placed on Russia’s wanted list after being refused entry into Belarus on account of her Russian passport having been confiscated by authorities. The report then reveals that Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson was able to assist Alyokhina in getting her a travel document from a European country that allowed her to travel freely from Russia to the EU. It adds that she has now travelled to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.“I still don’t understand completely what I’ve done,” she said in the piece.

Todd Spangler NY Digital EditorDevin Nunes, the former congressman who is now CEO of Donald Trump’s social-media rival to Twitter, claimed that his new boss “encouraged” tech mogul Elon Musk to acquire Twitter, to “take on these tech tyrants.”Musk says that’s false.“I’ve had no communication, directly or indirectly, with Trump, who has publicly stated that he will be exclusively on Truth Social,” Musk tweeted Friday, replying to a New York Post article about Nunes’ claims. In an appearance Wednesday on Fox Business Network’s “Varney & Co,” Nunes said, “President Trump, basically before Elon Musk bought it, actually said to go and buy it because the goal of our company is really to build a community where people are in a family-friendly, safe environment.” Nunes added, “we encouraged Elon Musk to buy” Twitter, because “someone has to take on these tech tyrants… Donald Trump wanted to make sure that the American people got their voice back and that the internet was open and that’s what we are doing.” Nunes, who is CEO of Trump Media & Technology Group, once sued Twitter, seeking $250 million in damages, alleging in part he was defamed by anonymous parody accounts “Devin Nunes’ Mom” and “Devin Nunes’ Cow.” A judge threw out the case.Musk has said he’s primarily interested in protecting “free speech” on Twitter, and he has criticized the company for allegedly having a left-leaning political bias. That stance has led right-wingers — who have long alleged Twitter (and other internet platforms) somehow stifle conservative viewpoints — to champion Musk’s $44 billion bid for Twitter.Twitter permanently banned Trump shortly after the Jan.
