Convicted child killer and rapist Aaron Campbell has been rushed to hospital after allegedly being attacked in prison.
The 20-year-old, who kidnapped, abused and murdered six-year-old Alesha MacPhail, was reportedly beaten in his cell at Polmont Young Offenders Institute on Wednesday.
A 22-year-old inmate has been reported to the procurator fiscal in relation to the attack.
Campbell is normally kept separate from the other lags because of his notoriety and his sickening crime.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were made aware around 6pm on Wednesday, 1 June, 2022 of an assault within Polmont Prison.
“A 20-year-old man was taken to Forth Valley Royal Infirmary for treatment.
“A 22-year-old man will be subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Campbell snatched little Alesha from her bed on July 2, 2018, before raping and murdering her.
The judge presiding over Campbell's trial, Lord Matthews, said the then-teenager had committed "some of the most wicked and evil crimes this court has ever heard of in decades of dealing with depravity".
He described Campbell as a "cold, calculating, remorseless and dangerous individual" and "completely lacking in victim empathy".
The judge took the rare action of allowing Campbell to be identified in the media despite being under the age of 18 - when such offenders are usually given anonymity until adulthood.
The sick killer was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 27 years, which was later reduced to 24 years on appeal.
He will not be eligible for parole until he turns 40, and will be moved to an adult prison when he turns 21 next year.
The Scottish Prison Service was contacted for comment.
