Racegoers from Greater Manchester are being urged to behave responsibly if they're visiting a historic North West city this weekend. The Chester Races have returned to the famous Roodee racecourse, with visitors expected to flock to the city by the Welsh border.
Officers are keen to make sure the weekend goes smoothly for racegoers and residents, with an increased police presence across the city this weekend. Cheshire Police has also issued a 48-hour dispersal order, covering most of Chester city centre, in a bid to prevent anti-social behaviour.
The dispersal order - issued under Section 34 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 - allows officers to ban anyone from the area for up to 48 hours to prevent disorder. Dispersal powers are in place until midday on Sunday, July 16.

Inspector James Wilson, from Cheshire Police, said: "The races are a big draw to the city centre, and we want everyone to enjoy their time here, whether that’s as a racegoer, resident or business. These orders are additional tactical option that allow us to deal with anti-social behaviour head on.
"A number of officers will be out in key areas, patrolling around the city and I would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to an officer. I would urge residents and businesses to continue to report any issues with anti-social behaviour so that we can address these issues.”
The dispersal order covers the area highlighted in the above map. A copy of the map will be provided to anyone issued with a direction to leave, and it will be an offence for them to return to the area for up to 48 hours.

In a move that harkens back to the 1950s while simultaneously echoing the ongoing censorship of depictions of LGBTQ identity nationwide, the Motion Picture Association has given the upcoming queer film Passages an NC-17 rating.“We hunger for movies that are in any proximity to our own experience,” director Ira Sachs told Los Angeles Times, “and to find a movie like this, which is then shut out, is, to me, depressing and reactionary.”To be sure, the Sundance drama is quite sensual — it centers on a Parisian love triangle between a movie director (Franz Rogowski), his artist husband (Ben Whishaw), and a teacher (Adèle Exarchopoulos). And yes, it has its fair share of sex and nudity — including a two-minute scene of the two husbands shot in a single take. But none of the scenes are particularly indelicate or over-the-top, the film’s distributor MUBI said in a statement. For Sachs, the rating is “a form of cultural censorship that is quite dangerous, particularly in a culture which is already battling, in such extreme ways, the possibility of LGBT imagery to exist.”“MUBI has officially rejected this NC-17 rating,” the film’s distributor said, per Variety.
