NMIXX has performed a cover of IU’s 2017 single ‘Through The Night’ on Begin Again Open Mic.On the evening of March 13, JTBC’s live music YouTube series Begin Again Open Mic released a clip of the K-pop singer covering IU’s 2017 hit ‘Through The Night’ it to a small live audience. The NMIXX vocalist had appeared on the show with bandmate Lily, who performed an acoustic cover of Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson’s ‘Symphony’ in a clip released last week.Sullyoon’s rendition of the IU track remains true to the original, with stripped-down guitar and piano instrumentals accompanying her performance.“Like the words written in the sand, where the waves are / I’m afraid you’ll disappear / So I always miss you / I can’t take out, all these words in my heart / But this means that I love you,” she sings in the chorus.Following the performance, Sullyoon shared that she chose to cover ‘Through The Night’ on the show because she listened to it often, and recently learnt to play it on guitar.

Naman Ramachandran Asian content heavyweights revealed their thoughts on several subjects at a panel called “The Asian Wave in 2023 and Beyond” on March 13, the opening day of FilMart in Hong Kong. The lively session, moderated by Variety‘s Asia editor Patrick Frater, featured Sebastian Kim, director of international content sales and acquisition at Korea’s CJ ENM, Sanmesh Thakur, executive VP and territory head, Asia Pacific, at India’s Zee Entertainment Enterprises and Ziraviss Vindhanapisuth, VP, international business at Thailand’s BEC World Public Company. The evergreen topic of co-production was discussed in some depth. Kim said: “We’ve been looking for this formula for decades and for now, we find that the best formula of co-production is more like an adaptation of the original — A place to B place production — that’s how we’ve been doing it.”

Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Drive My Car was awarded with best feature at the Asian Film Awards (March 12), along with prizes for best editing and best original music. The multiple award winning Japanese drama premiered at Cannes film festival in 2021 and also won the Oscar for Best International Feature last year.

But the overall market continued to soften despite a slew of new release titles. Nationwide theatrical grosses totaled just $7.26 million. That made it the slowest box office weekend in over three months. “Quantumania” collected $2.0 million between Friday and Sunday, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic), and enjoyed a 27% market share. The second weekend increment lifted its 12-day total to $10.6 million. Long-running Japanese animation title, “The First Slam Dunk” earned $1.36 million in its eighth weekend on release. Since Jan. 4 it has accumulated $28.0 million.
