A successful chef has shared his go-to recipe for making mashed potatoes, and it contains a couple of ingredients that you might not expect.
Mashed potato is one of those foods that's simple to make, but adding the right extras can really make or break it. Butter and milk are common additions to make it taste more rich and creamy, and doing so creates the perfect comfort food.
But it turns out there are a few more things you should consider adding into the preparations, top chef Robbie Bell has revealed in a recent TikTok video.
The Mirror reports that the British-born chef, who has previously worked with culinary royalty Heston Blumenthal, is currently the owner and head charcutier at Melbourne's City Larder.
He often posts handy cooking tips on TikTok under the username @robbiebell8, and his recent clip about the mashed potato recipe has sparked debate in the comments.
In the video, he described using the classic additions of milk, butter, salt and olive oil to season the mash - but also included the surprising additions of lemon and nutmeg.
The chef can be seen peeling and chopping his potatoes into equal sizes, before simmering them gently in a pot of salted water.
They were then drained, dried, and set aside, before being put through a mouli press - they can also just be mashed if you prefer - and added to a saucepan of butter.
After this, Robbie added olive oil, milk, and a sprinkle of nutmeg, giving this "a bit of a whirl" with a spatula, before giving it a quick taste test.
After adding some more salt and pepper, Robbie squeezed in a little lemon juice, much to the surprise of his followers - who were also a bit taken aback by the nutmeg.
