Cerys Matthews shot to fame in the 1990s as a member of Welsh rock band Catatonia and has gone on to have a hugely successful and varied career in the spotlight. She's released several solo albums and penned a number of books, but it's her weekly Radio 6 show which has really captured fans over recent years. Cerys, 54, hosts her own Sunday morning show on Radio 6 every weekend, with a huge variety of famous guests joining her.
From The Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood to The Clash's Topper Headon, she's interviewed dozens of famous faces since joining the Radio 6 team in 2008. However, there's still many stars she'd love to sit down with for a chat. Speaking to OK!, Cerys shared her hopes of interviewing stars including Blondie's Debbie Harry in the future.
"Oh my gosh. I've been thinking quite a lot. I'd love to interview Chrissie Hynde, Debbie Harry, Nina Persson from The Cardigans about songwriting.
Kate Bush - the same - and some amazing songwriters out there," she excitedly tells us. Cerys is visibly passionate about both older and newer artists, and there's no doubting her evident love for music. She adds: "I wouldn't mind Dolly Parton coming over again.
See, that's my taste.
These guys have been around the block.
They're no fools, you know. And yeah, I'd be quite interested in introducing them to the newer artists as well in the UK." Cery's Sunday show has become Radio 6's single biggest show and brings in hundreds of thousands of listeners each weekend. As well as interviewing music icons, Cerys adds her own personal touch to her radio shows, whether it be sharing a poem, recipe, or inviting a specific guest on for a chat.
