Officers received the report at around 2.25pm on Saturday - and said the thief pounced as the woman's back was turned at her car in the car park.
In a statement, GMP said: "On Saturday 3 February 2024, at around 2.25pm, officers received reports of a theft outside a store on West One Retail Park in Eccles, Salford. Initial enquiries suggested that the female suspect stole the victim's bag from a shopping trolley as the victim was loading her baby into a car.
"When the victim has turned back towards the trolley, the suspect fled the scene with the victim's bag. Officers would like to speak to this woman as they believe she may have further information regarding this incident."
The force went on: "If you witnessed this incident, have CCTV, dashcam or any information regarding this incident or recognise the woman in the image, please get in touch.
