The mum of murdered schoolgirl Caroline Glachan says justice has been served after two of her killers were locked up for a total of 40 years.
Margaret McKeich spoke outside the High Court in Glasgow yesterday as Robert O’Brien, 45, Andrew Kelly, 44, were both handed life sentences.
During sentencing, Lord Braid said the 14-year-old was subjected to a “brutal, depraved and wicked attack”.
O’Brien and Kelly, along with Donna Marie Brand, 44, were involved in the killing of the Bonhill teenager before leaving her to drown in the River Leven on August 25 1996.
Heartbroken mum Margaret McKeich was once again in court along with other family and friends to see her daughter’s killers jailed.
Afterwards, she said the sentencing was “justice” for her daughter, stating: “This is a day that I’ve been waiting for, for 27 years. We were really happy with the sentences. It was more than I was expecting.
“I’m just sad that the other one isn’t here to get her comeuppance. But she’ll get it in March.
“We couldn’t have wished for a better outcome. The whole thing has been absolutely fabulous.
“I know it might not look like it. But I am over the moon. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
“It’s not going to bring Caroline back.
“But it’s justice for her. She might be able to rest in peace now.
“You don’t really get closure, because I’ve still got to live without my daughter. I don’t think closure is the right word, but justice is.
“And that’s what we’ve got today.."
The trio were charged after the cold-case killing was reinvestigated in 2019 and were all convicted of murder after a harrowing trial last month.
