Carol Vorderman reduced fans to laughter on Sunday as she admitted to missing the national emergency alarm in the afternoon. This weekend marked the historic day that the government tested their emergency alert system for the first time, with Brits taking to social media to share their thoughts. The technology was tested in the hopes it could provide a warning system for life-threatening circumstances like flooding, wildfires, terror attacks or nuclear threats. Other countries like the United States, Canada, Japan and the Netherlands all have similar systems in place.
Millions of 4G and 5G users received the text message at 3pm alongside a loud alarm, though some people have since admitted to not receiving the message at all while others have said it came at 2:59 pm. Carol, who is set to star in I'm A Celebrity...
Get Me Out of Here! All Stars next week, shared her own thoughts about the alarm with her 752k followers. On Twitter, she penned: “It's been a busy week, so I treated myself to a little Sunday nap (Nana nap!!!) on the sofa thinking the #emergencyalert would wake me up.
Has it happened yet in Bristol? Cos I've just woken up......... 4.45pm.” Carol’s experience was seemingly shared by many other Brits who reported not receiving the message or alarm at all, as one person replied: "I didn’t get it either.” Other celebrities have also been sharing their thoughts on social media, with Gary Lineker penning: “Alarms have gone off in the Spurs dressing room at half time.” Carol is set to join I’m A Celeb All Stars, which Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are set to host, alongside former contestants in South Africa instead of the usual Australia.
