Megan Cusack, who plays the role of nurse Nancy Corrigan in Call The Midwife, comes from a family of famous actors. She's set to return to our screens this Sunday on BBC One. In the first episode of the new series, Nancy will be on hand to help Doreen Challis, a young woman with cerebral palsy give birth.
Nancy will also find herself at odds with Nurse Crane when she learns about the Raise the Roof campaign for better pay and conditions. Who is in Megan Cusack's famous family? Megan was born in Cork in May 1996 and made her professional acting debut in 2019. In September 2021, she was nominated for Favourite Newcomer in the TV Times Awards 2021 for her role as Nancy.
She also ranked seventh in the top 10 Period Drama Actresses in 2021. Her father, Padraig Cusack, is a theatre producer and she expressed her desire to become an actress to him at the tender age of nine. Megan is also the granddaughter of actors Cyril and Maureen Cusack.
Cyril, born in South Africa and raised in Ireland, started his stage career at seven and later toured with his own theatre company. He is known for his roles in The Golden Bowl, Jackanory, Strumpet City and Clochemerle. The star died in October 1993, at the age of 82, and appeared in an episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles that same year.
Maureen meanwhile was born in 1920 in Ireland and was a well-known actress for her roles in Odd Man Out, The Rising of the Moon and Von Richthofen and Brown. She was married to Cyril and sadly died in December 1977, aged 57. Megan has many famous aunties, including actresses Sinead, Sorcha, Niamh and Catherine.
