BBC's Call the Midwife fans are in for a shock as one character is about to make a dramatic exit in the series finale. On Sunday, the final episode is reported to end with nurse Trixie Franklin announcing that she's leaving London for America - and is joining her husband across the pond.
This comes after Helen's fans were left "heartbroken" when her Call the Midwife character Trixie had to say goodbye to her husband.
But despite the midwife’s announcement that she’s going to New York to patch up her rocky marriage to Matthew Aylward - actress Helen George will reportedly return to the BBC drama. According to The Mirror, the season 13 finale will end on a cliffhanger that will leave fans fearing that Helen - one of six stars who remain in the hit show from the original 2012 cast - has left for good.
But insiders say the star won't be gone for long as she's reported to return to film series 14, which starts production in the spring. One show insider told the publication: "This series ends with the firm impression that Trixie is off to America to start a new life with her husband and young step-son.
But the good news is her trip will be fleeting, and Helen will be back to carry on next year." OK! has contacted the BBC for comment. The final of series 13 of Call the Midwife is expected to end with a dramatic phone call between Trixie and her husband Matthew.
The call comes after Matthew moved to New York in a desperate bid to relaunch his career, after the property firm he inherited from his father collapsed.
