Cadbury has announced that it is set to make a major change to its iconic chocolate bars that might take some fans a while to accept.
The confectionary giant will now use plant-based fibres to develop new recipes for low-calorie chocolate that will contain 75 per cent less sugar and fat, reports the Sun. According to the brands US owners - Mondelez - the healthier chocolate will eventually taste just as good as the sugary version, even if it takes a while for it to really take off.
Dirk van de Put, Chief Executive at Mondelez, said: "It’s going to be a bit like diet drinks and grow very slowly, but we need to keep it on the market. It’s going to take a while before the consumer really takes to that because it still is not quite exactly the same taste — although it is getting close."
The Mondelez Executive also told the Sunday Telegraph that new tech and ingredients would help to get the taste right, following previous attempts to launch healthier chocolate.
It is the latest change that Cadbury has announced to its products, after it previously reducing the size of its big share bag of Dairy Milk Buttons. The popular chocolate shrunk from 240g to just 184.8g, with Cadbury citing rising production costs as the reason.
This is not the first time that Cadbury has dipped into creating healthier chocolate, as the UK brand has previously launched a low-calorie range at the start of this year.
The Cadbury Delights range, which contains just 91 calories per bar, is available to buy in three delicious flavours; salted caramel, hazelnut and orange & caramel.

Peter Debruge Chief Film Critic Taking a cue from the movie’s soon-to-be-infamous spanking scene between Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, someone ought to paddle whoever let Martin Scorsese take three and a half hours to retell “Killers of the Flower Moon.” You could read David Grann’s page-turner — about an audacious 1920s conspiracy to steal resources from the Osage people by marriage and murder — in less time, and you’d learn a whole lot more about how J. Edgar Hoover and the newly formed FBI used this case to establish their place in American law enforcement. Granted, this is cinema legend Martin Scorsese we’re talking about. For years, he fought studio execs telling him what to cut, going head-to-head with Harvey Weinstein on “Gangs of New York” (a movie that probably would’ve been better longer). Now he’s earned the right to tell stories as he sees fit. Trouble is, at 206 minutes (still four shorter than “The Irishman”), “Killers of the Flower Moon” isn’t an epic motion picture so much as a miniseries. Nothing wrong with that, except it’s intended for the big screen — where Apple has committed to release it this fall. Closer to two hours, “Killers” would make a killing, whereas longer than “The Longest Day,” most folks will wait to watch at home.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are teaming up once again for their new film, Killers of the Flower Moon, and we have the very first teaser trailer for you to check out!
Winnie Harlow has said she was inspired by Winnie-the-Pooh when she came up with her stage name. The fashion model, 28, whose real name is Chantelle Whitney Brown Young, first found fame on the 21st season of America’s Next Top Model. She has been praised for challenging attitudes around beauty by raising awareness over a skin condition she suffers from called vitiligo, which causes skin to lose its pigmentation.
Although Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro take top billing in Martin Scorsese’s harrowing drama, one might say the real star of Killers of the Flower Moon is a relative unknown: Lily Gladstone, who plays Mollie, wife to DiCaprio’s Ernest. Mollie is the film’s conscience, a rich Osage woman who is slowly being robbed of her health by a seemingly simple case of diabetes. Insulin shots only seem to make matters worse, and after losing her sisters in suspicious circumstances, Mollie insists that only her husband can administer her medicine. But is she being too trusting?
