British rapper Dave calls UK prime minister racist in powerful BRIT Awards performance

On Tuesday night, London rapper Dave performed a new version of his song, “Black,” at the 2020 BRIT Awards, where he picked up a win for Album of the Year for PSYCHODRAMA. During the performance, he debuted a new verse where he accuses Prime Minister Boris Johnson of being “a real racist.”

South London rapper Dave performed an incendiary version of his Psychodrama song “Black” at the 2020 BRIT Awards in London Monday night (February 18). In a new verse, he dove deep on matters of institutional racism, leveling allegations at prime minister Boris Johnson, the British media and its treatment of Meghan Markle, and the architects of the Windrush scandal, which saw thousands mistakenly classified as illegal immigrants. The rapper also hit out the media's treatment of Meghan Markle and called for "support for the Windrush generation" during his performance.

The Brit Awards took place in London on Tuesday, delivering another memorable night for British music.

After an evening filled with fiery performances from Lizzo and Stormzy and subdued, affecting turns from Harry Styles and Billie Eilish at the 2020 Brit Awards, British rock elder statesman Rod Stewart took the stage flanked by chandeliers and a massive orchestra for the evening's finale. "Jack -- I'm gonna do this one for your mum, Hilary," Stewart said, nodding to Brit Awards host Jack Whitehall's mother, whom Whitehall joked was "throwing herself" at Rod earlier in the night.
