Britain’s Got Talent viewers were baffled on Saturday night’s show, when judge Simon Cowell finally revealed the true location of his hometown - and it’s not where you might expect! The music mogul is well known to have been born in Lambeth, London, and regularly divides his time between two homes, one in Holland Park and another in sun soaked Malibu, California. However during Saturday night’s episode, Simon revealed an unexpected connection to Birmingham, when he proclaimed himself to be a Brummie thanks to his mum’s heritage. Simon made the surprising admission after an audition from Midlands based singer, Amy Lou when she performed her own rendition of Beyoncé 's smash-hit track, Listen, had managed to impress him.
As the music mogul delivered his yet vote, Simon announced his first real hometown to Amy, something which delighted fans in the audience who had never realised that Simon had a Midlands connection before. "By the way, my mum was from Birmingham so I am a Brummie," Simon revealed. Shortly after he shared the news, fans could hardly believe it and soon raced to social media to voice their shock at the news.
"WHAT is going on!!!!! Simon Cowellis a brummie!!!! OMG," one fan tweeted. Another viewer agreed, adding: ”Awhhhhh cute never knew Simon was from Birmingham.” Meanwhile a third fan echoed: ”No way is Simon a Brummie.” Before a fourth fan quipped: "Hahaha Simon has lost the accent somewhere along the line. Poshest Brummie I've ever seen." While the news was no doubt welcomed by many fans, not everyone was impressed by the revelation, with one proud Brummie even categorically refuting Simon’s claim.
