EXCLUSIVE: Briarcliff Entertainment has taken domestic distribution rights to Sight starring Terry Chen (Almost Famous, Falling) and Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine, As Good as It Gets). A wide theatrical release has been set for Oct. 27.
The pic, written and directed by Andrew Hyatt, is based on the true story of Dr. Ming Wang, a poor Chinese immigrant who defied all odds to become a world-renowned eye surgeon, restoring vision to tens of thousands. Pic traces Dr. Wang’s journey from a young boy growing up in 1970s China, to becoming one of the leading eye surgeons in America. He attended Harvard and MIT and developed an innovative technology that restored sight in millions.
Said Briarcliff’s Tom Ortenberg, “Our industry made some amazing strides this past year in terms of representation, including on the world stage at the Academy Awards. We are proud to be in partnership with a film that celebrates the incredible achievements of Asian Americans and help give a voice to Dr. Ming Wang’s inspiring story.”

As previously announced, the festival will open with the U.K. premiere of “Scrapper,” written and directed by Londoner Charlotte Regan, starring Harris Dickinson and newcomers Lola Campbell and Alin Uzun. It follows the story of a young man trying to make a life for himself in the aftermath of his father’s death.

Apink apart from Jung Eun-ji have left their longtime agency IST Entertainment.On April 28, IST Entertainment released a statement announcing that Apink members Park Cho-rong, Yoon Bo-mi, Kim Nam-joo and Oh Ha-young have left the agency. This marks the end of the four members’ partnership with the entertainment company, which began in 2011 upon the group’s debut.Of the group’s five members, Jung Eun-ji was the only one to renew her contract with IST.
Joe Otterson TV Reporter Scott Greenberg, the co-founder and CEO of Fox-owned animation studio Bento Box Entertainment, is exiting the company, Variety has confirmed. Greenberg is also the CEO of Fox’s Web3 media and creative technology company Blockchain Creative Labs (BCL). Mindy Kaling’s Kaling International, which is currently under an overall deal with WBTV, is attached to produce alongside Harpo Films. The novel follows Vera Wong, a lonely widow living in San Francisco’s Chinatown who wakes up one morning to find a dead body on the floor of her struggling tea shop. “No one is more curious than a suspicious Chinese mother with time on her hands, so Vera decides to start her own investigation,” reads the description. The book was published by Berkley, an imprint of Penguin Random House, and HQ, a division of HarperCollins UK.
