Following his departure from Strictly Come Dancing in 2018, professional dancer Brendan Cole didn’t hold back on his views about the shock decision. Having been a part of the show since its debut in 2004, Brendan expressed his shock and disappointment, stating that he was not included in the future plans for the beloved BBC One program. He said at the time: “It’s an editorial decision.
I’ll never know the ins and outs. I’m a very strong character within the show. I have my strong views.
Some do [like it], some don’t.” His clashes with Strictly judges, particularly Shirley Ballas, were well-documented over the years. Rumours of a backstage feud circulated after she got the head judge job he'd been favourite for. "Obviously everyone that was up for it would want it.
It is an amazing opportunity in terms of a spot," he said at the time. "It would have been a natural progression from being a dancer on the show. I was obviously disappointed that I didn't get it but at the same time my place has always been a dancer on the show." In response to his exit, a spokesperson for Strictly thanked Brendan for his contributions to the show's success since its inception.
Notably, Brendan emerged as the winner of the first series alongside newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky. Speaking candidly on ITV's Lorraine in 2018, Brendan admitted that the news of him being let go came as a shock, with the five-word comment: “It’s hard to talk about." He went on to add: "The BBC haven’t renewed my contract.
They made an editorial decision to not have me back on the show. I’m in shock.
I’m quite emotional, a bit raw about it. "I've always known this day would come... I'm sure I'll never know the ins and outs.
