A teenage boy has been found guilty of the murder of 12-year-old schoolgirl Ava White. Ava was fatally stabbed in the neck Liverpool city centre on November 25 last year.
The 14 year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denied her murder and manslaughter and has been on trial for the past fortnight at Liverpool Crown Court.
Today the boy, referred to as Boy A was found guilty of her murder. More than 20 members of Ava White’s family in the public gallery erupted into cheers as the jury foreman returned the unanimous guilty verdict, reached after two hours and eight minutes of deliberations.

The defendant, appearing via videolink, put his head in his hands as the verdict was read. He was then seen in tears as he stood up and walked away off-screen, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The judge Mrs Justice Amanda Yip adjourned sentencing until July 11. She ordered a pre-sentence report and remanded him into secure accommodation until that date.
"There is only one sentence the court can impose," she said. " Of course what I need to do is set the minimum term he is required to serve. I will need to have reports for that.”
Prosecutors said during the trial that Boy A knifed Ava after she argued with the teenager about him filming her on the social media app Snapchat in a "chance encounter" following Liverpool's Christmas lights switch-on.
She died from a "catastrophic" 5cm wound to her neck the court heard.
Boy A is then alleged to have laughed and ran away, ditching his flick knife, designer coat and mobile phone in a "cover up."
