LOS ANGELES, (Variety.com) - Universal and Blumhouse’s “The Invisible Man” materialized at the top of box office charts after debuting to $29 million in North America over the weekend.

Harrison Ford’s canine adventure “The Call of the Wild” is shaping up to be the latest box office dud for the Disney-owned 20th Century.

The Invisible Man saw success during its debut weekend at the box office, earning an estimated $29 million. Following the winning Blumhouse title in second place is Sonic the Hedgehog with $16 million, and The Call of the Wild in third with $13.2 million.

LOS ANGELES -- The Elisabeth Moss-led thriller “The Invisible Man” rode a wave of good reviews to a very visible spot atop the box office this weekend. Universal Pictures on Sunday estimated that the film from writer-director Leigh Whannell earned $29 million from North American theaters. Internationally, it picked up an additional $20.2 million.

Elisabeth Moss’s “The Invisible Man” is dominating North American moviegoing and should scare up about $23 million at 3,610 locations, early estimates showed Friday.

The Hollywood film, Knives Out was a classic whodunnit starring Daniel Craig and Captain America aka Chris Evans. The film was helmed ace director of Rian Johnson who is the name behind the massively successful Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

When “Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)” opened earlier this month, it quickly fell to earth like a wounded dove. The hyped superhero flick earned just $33 million in the U.S. during its opening weekend, making it the worst opening for a DC film since 2010’s “Jonah Hex.”

In a noteworthy feat for an original title, Rian Johnson's whodunnit Knives Out has reached the $300 million mark at the worldwide box office.Knives Out's domestic total through Monday stands at $159.1 million, with an international tally of $140.9 million.The crime caper — which first hit theaters in late November — is the second-most successful original movie of 2019 at the global box office behind Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which grossed $374.2 million.

One of my fave cinema-going trips of last year was going to see Rian Johnson’s wonderful ensemble murder-mystery movie Knives Out. The film is a blast from start to finish and it is great to see an original movie – not a sequel, prequel or remake – kicking it with the best of them and taking in tons of money at the box-office ($295 million worldwide so far).
