In a bit of fortuitous timing, Bill Maher invited ex-Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway as a guest on this week’s “Real Time” — apparently having locked down her appearance weeks ago. But the episode came just a day after the first night of the Jan. 6 commission’s congressional hearings, making Conway’s appearance extremely timely.
She was, after all, one of Trump’s biggest advisers and supporters. So understandably, that topic was front and center as Maher, Conway and other panelist Josh Barro started chatting. Throughout their discussion, Maher repeatedly tried to get Conway to stop defending Trump and say that maybe he shouldn’t be president again.Thing is though, Conway has spent the last 6 years defending Trump.
She’s good at that job. So obviously, Maher’s attempts to get her to turn on her old boss failed repeatedly. But at least the whole spectacle illustrated the folly of trying to have a good faith debate where no good faith actually exists. You can see how this played out in a short clip from the discussion, which we’ve embedded above.
If you can’t watch, you can read on for some frustrating highlights. For example, at the start of the clip, Conway (smugly) asks, “why is every day Jan. 6,” pretending not to understand people’s alarm at what investigators have described as an attempted coup.Maher explained that, “because, on that day, apparently, he asked for his Vice President to be murdered. Now, how do you spin that?”Conway then demonstrated very ably how someone of her considerable skill and competency can spin that.
“That’s, those are reports I’ve seen that people are saying that. And if people were threatening the life of the Vice President, I’m sure there are great federal laws against that. Let’s use them,”

The stars of Minions: The Rise of Gru are stepping out for the premiere of their new movie!
It was the last Real Time before a five-week break, and luckily for Bill Maher, he had one last show to discuss the hottest topic of the moment, the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
totally satisfied with politicians’ latest attempt at gun reform, largely because there are some big stipulations that are being left out of it. But he’ll take it, because it’s something — and in his eyes, it’s similar to a certain sexual favor. This week, a bipartisan gun reform bill was passed by the House, and is expected to be advanced by the Senate on Thursday.
Stephen Colbert addressed recent news that a field production team for his late-night program was detained at the Capitol while filming a comedy segment involving the foulmouthed puppet Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.“How was your weekend?” Colbert joked at the top of his opening monologue. “I certainly had an interesting one, because some of my staff had a memorable one.”“Triumph offered to go down to D.C. to interview some Congress people to highlight some January 6 hearings,” Colbert continued.

Donald Trump threw a verbal punch at Fox News Saturday, calling the network that helped get him elected president “stupid” for booking liberal comedian Bill Maher, who said the network backed out of talks for him to appear on one of their shows when he balked at “only talking about the things we agree on.”Why Trump’s swipe at Maher? Well, apparently Maher’s remark that Ron DeSantis would make a better president than Donald Trump has gotten under the skin of the former POTUS… and the “Real Time” host is loving it.On Friday’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” the host-comedian said that the Florida governor who has modeled his every move on Trump would be a better president than The Donald because “he’s not certifiably insane.”“That’s a great one to start off with,” Maher told his audience. “You know what Ron DeSantis won’t be doing? He won’t be poop tweeting every day.
Bill Maher didn’t sidestep his thoughts about Donald Trump and his hope that another Republican would come to the forefront before the 2024 presidential election, going as far as saying that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would be better than Trump because “he’s not an insane person.”On Friday night’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” the comedian-host jumped right in on what everyone interested in politics is talking about these days, and that’s the House January 6 committee hearings, which seem to be focusing on Trump’s involvement in the insurrection.“First of all, I actually have no issue with Trump being prosecuted, and I have a lot of issue with elites being left unaccountable for the crimes that they commit, number one. Number two, that’s not going to solve our problem,” guest panelist and podcast host Krystal Ball said.

Mediaite reported Thursday.Reason: The term adopts “branding” favored by the Democratic Party.Licht expressed a “preference” for the adjustment after someone on a Tuesday conference call with management and producers asked his opinion on Trump’s “Big Lie,” Mediaite said – adding that staffers “have taken it as a clear directive from the new boss” nonetheless.CNN and CNN staffers did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment Wednesday.Mediaite said Licht encouraged producers to instead use “Trump election lie” or “election lies” in chyrons and elsewhere. Stephen Colbert was none too pleased to hear that the January 6 committee hearing scheduled for Wednesday was postponed due to “technical issues.” Upon learning exactly what those issues were, the “Late Show” host went off.“They promised us hearings! We can’t let them get away with this. I’m storming the Capitol! Who’s with me?” Colbert joked, before screaming and running around his studio for a moment.
