Beyond Fest Sets 2023 Lineup: Genre Fest Features Roger Corman Tribute, ‘It’s A Wonderful Knife’ Premiere, ‘The Abyss’ Screening, Guillermo del Toro, Brad Bird & More

The Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival, running from October 18 to 24 in the Spanish island’s capital of Palma, has unveiled its full line-up.

EXCLUSIVE: The DTLA Film Festival has set the full feature lineup for its 15th edition, taking place at Regal L.A. Live from November 1-5, announcing the Jack Huston starrer Hail Mary as its opening night film.

On the heels of a staggeringly triumphant run with Barbie, the fantastical comedy which she co-wrote and directed for Warner Bros, Greta Gerwig has been appointed by the American Film Institute to serve as Guest Artistic Director of AFI Fest 2023.

When you look at James Cameron’s filmography, the man doesn’t have any real missteps. Sure, you can dissect his directorial debut, “Piranha II,” or talk about how “Avatar” has completely dominated his career over the past decade, but by and large, the filmmaker has one of the most successful and influential IMDBs of anyone.

AFI Fest marks the end of the Fall film festival circuit before the industry shifts gears toward Awards season. And while that means there are plenty of titles at the Hollywood-set festival premiered elsewhere earlier in the year, it still offers some premieres of its own.

The American Film Institute on Thursday revealed the full lineup for this year’s AFI Fest, taking place in Los Angeles from October 25-29. It joins the previously announced fest opener, Sam Esmail’s Leave the World Behind, and closer in Bradley Cooper’s Maestro. Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story is the Centerpiece film.

Todd Gilchrist editor James Cameron appeared Wednesday at Los Angeles genre festival Beyond Fest for a Q&A about “The Abyss” after a screening of the film’s seldom-seen two-hour and 51-minute Special Edition. Unbeknownst to attendees (but later confirmed by festival programmers), the DCP presentation turned out to be the 4K transfer Cameron announced last year, physical and streaming versions of which he said were “out of his hands” but all work has long been completed.

The Tokyo Film Festival has set the lineup for its bumper 2023 edition, running October 23 to November 1. Scroll down for the full list.

Beyond Fest 2023 gets underway in LA next week, with all sorts of genre world premieres. Among the line-up at this year’s fest? Alan Scott Neal‘s “Last Straw,” an off-kilter take on the home-invasion thriller starring “American Horror Story” actress Jessica Belkin.

A new documentary about the prolific multihyphenate Tyler Perry will be AFI Fest’s centerpiece film next month. The American Film Institute said today that Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story will make its world premiere October 27 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

The 23rd edition of the Tribeca Festival will unspool June 5-16 in New York City, organizers said today, and submissions are now open.
